Was Luke a Jew or a Gentile?

There is a constant flow of blind guides telling Bible students that Luke was not a Jew. This is not only a ridiculous charge but we must point out from the start that it is a blasphemous denial of God's own words on the matter. Romans 3:1-2 says:

"What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
"Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God."

God said that He did not give His oracles to Gentiles. We receive them FROM the Jews for our benefit unto eternal salvation, but they were originally given to JEWS. In John 4:22, we are told that Jesus said:

"Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews."

James clearly says that we must, "receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls." (James 1:21) This is a definite reference to the NEW Testament. If the "engrafted word" is the word of God, it is included in the reference to "the oracles of God" (Romans 3:2). "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God..." (2 Timothy 3:16) and, as such, all Scripture is included in any reference to "the oracles of God".

Therefore, Luke's writings as Scripture are clearly included in any reference to "the oracles of God", thus making it clear that he was a Jew.

On the other hand, if Luke was a Gentile then that would put Jesus in a bad light. He would be a liar at worst and mistaken at best. Either way, He certainly would not be fit to save others if He were Himself a sinner. And Paul's claim would be fallible at best and would put his writings in question.

But the truth is clear. God gave His words to us through Jews and salvation comes from His words, or "oracles" as Romans 3 puts it.

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17)

It's crystal clear:

--We are saved by faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9).
--Faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17).
--The Book of Luke and the Acts are the word of God and present the Gospel (2 Timothy 3:16).
--Luke and Acts are included as "the oracles of God" (Romans 3:1-2).
--Salvation is of the Jews (John 4:22).

That means that Luke, the author of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles was a JEW.

Only Jewish Books CAN Be Inspired and Infallible

This Jewish requirement of all authors of Scripture is one reason why we know to reject the Koran, Book of Mormon, writings of Ellen G. White, etc. God doesn't deliver His words (oracles) through Gentiles.

Isn't it ironic (tongue-in-cheek) that just when the new age cults begin promoting the ecumenical acceptance of all religions as equal, that this attempt to make a Gentile out of Luke has become a standard lie in the apostate churches?

Think about it. If the Christian world can be dumbed-down by pseudo-scholarship to believe that we had Gentiles authoring some of our Biblical books then that would lend credibility to the apocryphal books authored by Gentile imposters, as well as the books mentioned in the previous paragraph. And why not throw in Papal statements given "ex-cathedra", Marian apparitions and other Gentile "scriptures", so-called holy books, etc.

It is true that God has made mouthpieces of Gentiles at times. One bad apple was the Gentile prophet Balaam. But that's a wholly different subject. We are talking about the words that end up as Scripture. And none of these were penned by Gentiles.

Luke Confirms His Jewish Genes By Recording Stephen's Witness

Luke himself provides another witness to the fact that the Books of Luke and Acts, if they were given to Him by God (and they WERE), were given to him because he met the one, main requirement: he is a JEW. In Acts 7:28, Stephen is speaking of Moses and then limits the oracles of God as being given to the Jews:

"This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us."

Given to WHO? Stephen says, "...unto US."

And who is US? He is clear that he is referring to the JEWS. And that would include Luke.

Colossians 4:7-13

Another claim made in an effort to make a gentile out of Luke is that Paul lists him separately from those "who are of the circumcision" (verse 11). But the idea that Luke is separated from those among the circumcision in Colossians 4 is a ridiculous mis-reading of the text:

A. Colossians 4:7-11 lists those whom Paul says MIGHT accompany Tychicus when he comes to visit Colosse. Among this group is included Onesimus, Aristarchus, Marcus and Jesus (Justus) who are of the circumcision.

B. Colossians 4:12-14 lists those who remain with Paul but send greetings and there is NO mention either way of those who are "of the circumcision" or not.

It is a simple careless mishandling of the text that leads idolatrous Romanists, apostate evangelicals and other assorted cracked pots to make such claims regarding Luke not being a Jew.

Luke's Style Is Cramping Modern Scholars

Probably one of the most ridiculous claims is that Luke's STYLE reveals his RACE. Imagine how dumb a "scholar" has to be to look at the style used in writing and then claim to know that person's RACE.

Luke was a Jew. He was obviously influenced to some extent by Hellenism, a "progressive" Jewish culture that immersed itself in Greek culture. We can say that Luke was under Hellentistic influence because of his name: Lucas. It's a Greek name.

The same is known of Apollos. Is there any better example of a pagan and Greek name for a child? Apollos! Yet, Acts 18:24 describes Apollos, "And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, [and] mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus." His name, his mannerisms, his birthplace ALL hint of Greek culture. Yet, he was a JEW.

Now, let's take a moment and look at the science. We'll ask a couple of questions and the answers will clear things up.

Question #1: Does the origin of your name determine your RACE?

Answer: NO.

Question #2: Does the style of your writing determine your RACE?

Answer: NO.

This claim that Luke's style, being Hellenistic (Greek), tells us that he is Greek and not Jew is about as scientific as Darwinian evolution and is the kind of "scholarship" you expect from the Vatican and the Watchtower society.

The fact is, there have been Jews with Gentile names and Jews immersed in non-Jewish culture for all of 2,000 years and that makes them no less a Jew. Most of the Jews who died in the Holocaust (6 million PLUS) were as German by name and "style" as their Germanic hunters and persecutors. But that did not make them GERMAN.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
"For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."
