The King At His Cross

In defeat, I rose to victory,
The day I knelt before a King.
On my knees in full submission,
I lay before Him everything.

I confessed my crimes against Him.
I admitted a guilty plea.
I expected nothing from Him,
But my due penalty.

With my face pressed to the soil,
I thought my heart would break,
As a flood of revelation,
Made my inner being quake.

At that time I saw a vision.
As real as one could be.
A Cross and bloody body.
A man’s face looking right at me.

My soul began to tremble,
I chilled from head to toe.
His visage marred inhuman,
But His eyes, I seemed to know.

Then He spake, facing Heaven.
With a cry, “My God, My God!,
Why hast thou forsaken me?!?”
I thought my heart would stop.

With a thunderous roar, lightning struck.
The earth began to shake.
I panicked but I couldn’t move
Not knowing what direction to take.

I watched Him suffer hours,
Full of pain and misery.
Each time I thought I’d walk away,
He looked right down at me.

Near 3 PM, when dark at day,
God’s Spirit spoke my name,
“If you were the only sinner born,
He would die for you just the same.”

I believed it. I knew it.
The words were painfully true.
With guilt and shame I mourned my state,
Not knowing what to do.

I cupped my face inside my hands,
And wept with no control.
At that moment, Jesus spoke again.
His word pierced through my soul.

Gasping deep, He took a breath.
He looked away from me.
“It… is… finished!” He yelled.
Setting captives free.

At the very moment He spake,
I fell prostrate once again.
My tears dripped onto the ground
The King had paid for my sin.

Oh, the sorrow that I felt.
A burden of shame and guilt.
I barely could speak a word, but said,
“Do with me as thou wilt.”

Suddenly a voice rang out,
Which spake for all to hear,
“PARDONED”, was his single word,
“FORGIVEN!” His subjects cheered.

Near shock, I looked up quickly to see
The King upon His throne.
Announcing to the Kingdom heirs,
“This child is now my own!”

The King had been offended.
The King must be satisfied.
So the King became a Subject.
Was nailed to a Cross and died.

In that moment I crucified my flesh.
I count it all but loss.
None else has mattered since the day,
I met the King at His Cross.
